Julien, a doctor by training and a doctoral student in the nutrition department of the Université de Montréal. His research interests include policy, public nutrition, and systems and environments sustainable food. The evaluation of the nutritional and health impact of public policies  aimed at improving food systems and environments is its main line of research.

His doctoral research focuses on the comparative study on the evaluation of policies aimed at the creation of healthy and sustainable food environments in French-speaking West Africa, particularly in Senegal, Benin, Togo, Burkina-Faso and Côte d'Ivoire. Julien wants to analyze and compare the results of the policy assessment with Food-EPI and then analyze to what extent sustainability is taken into account in food environment policies in the five West African countries. In addition, Julien will conduct a Delphi study in which international food policy and sustainability experts will compare the effectiveness of pairs of policy areas and best practice policies in sustainability areas to determine a new index that takes into account the double burden of malnutrition. Using this new index, Julien will map and compare the food system policies of the five countries and in five major cities. Finally, Julien will do a secondary analysis of the data by analyzing and comparing nutrition policies using an analysis grid to assess to what extent gender issues are taken into account in the nutrition policies of the 5 countries.

Before joining the NOVA-Lab laboratory,   Julien  worked as a public health doctor for the Ministry of Health of Senegal for 11 years. During his stay at the International Health Unit of the CRCHUM,  he contributed to work related to the preparation of partnership mechanisms between organizations working in global health and the School of Health Public of UdeM. Then, he worked as a volunteer nutrition advisor for SUCO as part of its technical support to the Ministry of Health in Senegal. Finally, recently consultant in nutrition at the level of FAO-Senegal, Julien carried out the situational diagnosis of the systems and environments of food security, nutrition and health in Senegal within the framework of the development of national dietary recommendations ( RANs) in Senegal.
